I started taking my cycling more seriously in 2009 as a better way to commute between Rockingham and Bibra Lake whilst addressing an ever increasing waistline. Within 9 months I’d dropped 15kgs and started a regular 100+km Saturday morning ride.

I soon started ‘needing’ a Mountain bike, a new road bike and before long I’d started a few semi-competitive community events like the Perth great bike ride and Freeway ride.

This led to joining Peel Districts Cycling Club and entering the Dusk ‘til Dawn 12 hour MTB race as a team of four under the name ‘Avanti + Rockingham Uberquads’. This was the start of our social team based from our Support sponsor LBS with the intention to encourage like minded social riders to help each other in all aspects of cycling.

Since then I have entered the same race solo, the Karri cup twice and the Cape to Cape twice.

As much as I love the mountain biking competition I’ve found that I tend to have far more success in road bike competition.

My road racing has resulted in a few wins in C grade races initially, and since then B grade including podiums in Crit races and club champs and a win in last year’s road race championships.

So my bike collection now includes a racing road bike, commute bike, MTB, Track bike, a Time trial bike and my latest addition…

In 2015, I finally decided to combine my love of off-road with my road bike success and I bought an entry level Cyclocross bike. I attempted one race but double flatted on the warm-up without spares so that ended the season quickly. Last year I actively supported the CXWA Numbat cup competing in B grade for 4 races plus the Supercross. Needless to say regardless of my results the supportive and fun nature of the CX racing has certainly got me hooked.
