Nick recently asked me if I could rebuild his Velocity Deep V track wheel for his single speed commuter. He’d broken three spokes on the wheel and had almost given up on it. Maybe there was a bad batch of spokes with his wheel or possibly the anodizing process of colouring the spokes red had somehow weakened their strength? When I detensioned the wheel I noticed that one of the replacement spokes was 6mm longer than all the other 284mm spokes. It didn’t leave a positive impression of the workmanship that goes into repairing wheels in some bike shops. After detensioning the wheel, I then relaced it with a new set of black Sapim Race spokes.
